It is the most difficult task - to stay this honest - when you are in the company of 'not-so-clean" band of people and have all the power in the world to corrupt you.

They say- "All power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Dr. Singh is the exception that proves the rule.

May he inspire a few more in our political system in the near future - and India can 'look forward to its Golden past' once again.

Thank you all-for the supportive comments. I am a big fan of Dr. Singh.

Thanks for the PM's speech. i read it first time here only. Truth has won, though by dubious means. well that is perhaps our India! We should be happy that truth won. For those who might not have noted it, Editor of Thuglak has been consistent and principled supporter of the nuclear deal and PM's decisiveness on it. Though he had to mock our 'jananaayagam' as 'aela naayagam' side by side, with a cartoon to illustrate it, in last issue.

Dear Joshi, Thank you for the text of the speech. I have been wanting to read it, but did not get my hands on it.
You may like to refer to my earlier blogDr Mamohan Singh -aleader No - a statesman.
He has been not only impeccably honest personally, but extremely far sighted. You may remember that When he took over as finance minister India was in a financial crisis, with foreign exchange only for 2 weeks imports.
He decided that extreme measures were required, and mortgaged our gold reserves lying in the reserve bank, to the Bank of England, to get borrow much needed foreign exchange. At that time there was an uproar by the BJP and the communists that India's "family jewels " had been pawned, and it was a shame on India. (presumably, defaulting on payments to other countries was not!). He promised India that he would have the gold back in 6 months. And he changed all policies, and six months later had enough foreign exchange not only for our needs, but also to
pay for the loan in full and get the gold back. Since then our economy has never faltered.

I would any day trust such a man, unlike any other politician. If he says that India's right for testing is not affected - I trust him. If he says that India's foreign policy will not be affected, I trust him. If he says The N-deal is a must for India, I trust his foresight. And so should all Indians. I agree with yoiu that he is a leader India should be proud of.
